Ruby on Rails Developer

This job was posted on Oct 11
Working from remote

Tinkertanker is a software engineering firm focusing on education and technology. We have a series of well-loved products that provide solutions from elegant guest registration (GuestDay, 150+ events since 2013) to really simple ID Photo taking (IC Photo & ID PhotoPrint Apps, nearly 400,000 downloads) to home cleaning (Spickify, launching soon!). We spread our love for programming and electronics through fun and interactive classes for students and even teachers.

We are looking for an experienced Ruby on Rails developer to join us in building and maintaining the back-ends and APIs for our clients and for our various products (e.g. Spickify, GuestDay, 125 and up). If you've been living and breathing Rails and find yourself critical of code that is written in a "non-Ruby way" (even if it works), let's talk!

We have a well-stocked pantry at our convenient office next to Kallang MRT, flexible working arrangements, and regular fun team outings & events.

We’re looking for someone who’s independent, self-motivated, and willing to try new things. If that sounds like you — even if you don’t think you’re extremely competent at everything we do — we’d love to have you learn and grow with us.

This is our technology stack. If you’re the kind of geeky person we’re looking for, you may have an opinion about these:

  • We work on Macs and iPads.
  • We make web app back-ends in Rails.
  • We do front-end web work with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Foundation, Bootstrap, Bower, Middleman, Angular, Grunt, Gulp, and WordPress. (not all at the same time… we hope!)
  • Our main mobile apps are on iOS (both iPhone and iPad), though we do have a couple of Android projects in the works. We use both platforms.
  • We use git for source control.
  • We edit code in Vim, Sublime Text, or Xcode.
  • Our email, calendaring, and documents are on Google Apps and Dropbox.
  • We communicate and manage tasks in Asana, Slack, and Trello. (Not email, if we can help it!)
  • We also teach: For our intro programming classes, we teach Arduino (with Scratch or C), Python, and Unity (JavaScript).
  • Our multiplayer mobile game of choice is Carcassonne on iOS.

  • Fluent in Ruby on Rails
  • Comfortable with HTML, CSS & JavaScript
  • Strong coding skills, and a willingness to learn
  • Good communication skills, and ability to work independently
